SUMMARY:Creating More Collaborative Partnerships in Alternative Delivery
DESCRIPTION:WCCC is pleased to host this series on Alternative Project Delivery Methods (APDMs).   It will explore the themes of procurement\, project execution\, and broader organizational dynamics in the context of APDMs.   \nPART TWO THEME:  Project Execution \nPractitioners and Owners alike know that creating a collaborative environment within the project team is key to project success.  Getting there takes transparency\, trust\, and a shared mission of thinking in the project’s best interest.  As simple as it sounds\, we often struggle to translate these concepts into actionable tactics during the week-to-week grind of a project. \nThis session will use real project scenarios to illustrate the “Goldilocks Zone” that represents a pragmatic approach to project collaboration.  We will give examples of how to use a “dimmer switch” to continue building collaboration from the project partnering stage through completion. \nParticipants will learn: \n\nReal-world definitions of transparency\, trust\, and collaboration – and why “too much” can slow down a project\, create confusion\, delay decision making\, and increase stress.\nThe difference between simple risk transfer and true risk minimization\nPractical tips to reduce risk on your next project.\nHow owners and practitioners often understand the same project information in different ways – and why it matters.\nHow practitioners should take the role of educators and coaches to assist their owner partners.\n\nAudience:  Owners and Practitioners who are seeking healthier project team environments to improve their project outcomes \nInstructors: \nBrian Lines\, PhD\, PE\, professor at University of Kansas\, trains design and construction groups on best practices in alternative procurement\, project pursuits\, performance measurement systems\, and organizational change management.  He has implemented his tools\, templates\, and strategies on more than $1B in project value\, including many major delivery methods (DB\, CMAR\, P3\, JOC/IDIQ\, DBB). \nJeff Sawyer\, Director of Strategic Engagements for Simplar Institute\, conducts applied research in owner readiness for alternative delivery\, management of capital projects\, and risk-based partnering and planning.  He has 30+ years of experience in the engineering and construction industry.  He is former Senior Engineer for City of Prescott\, AZ and previously owned a water/wastewater Design-Build company. \nRegister a team of 3 or more from your organization and save $15 each! \nSee Flyer for complete details and registration information. \nRSVP and you will be sent a link to pay for your registration.

SUMMARY:Suspend Work – “Remain on Standby” – 3 Key Words
DESCRIPTION:When an Owner issues a suspension of work directive\, is the contractor entitled to recover delay and delay damages? \nThe rules governing recovery of damages under Suspension of Work clauses have been changing over the past two decades.  Recovery of costs and time may no longer be taken for granted. \nThis webinar explores operation of the Suspension of Work clause.  We will examine what damages are typically owed when work is suspended\, as well as some limitations of suspension damages. \nFive court cases setting forth key requirements necessary to collect damages are discussed.  Recommendations of what actions Contractors should take when work is suspended are provided and why these actions may help Owners resolve such claims in the field rather than the courtroom. \nParticipants will: \n\nLearn what a suspension of work is.\nThe types and typical causes of suspensions.\nThe operation of a suspension clause.\nWhat damages are recoverable\, and which are not.\nCurrent tests of damage recovery.\nHow contractors protect their rights to recover suspension of work damages.\n\nInstructor: James G. Zack\, Jr. is Principal of James Zack Consulting\, LLC\, a construction claims consultancy dedicated to helping Owners and Contractors complete projects in the field\, not arbitration or court.   He is a recognized\, published expert in mitigation\, analysis\, and resolution or defense of construction claims and disputes.  In his 49-year career\, he has been involved in public and private projects throughout the U.S. and 39 countries\, working with Owners and Contractors on 5\,000+ claims. \nRegister a team of 3 or more from your organization and save $15 each! \nSee Flyer for complete details and registration information. \nRSVP and you will be sent a link to pay for your registration.
