SUMMARY:Earned Value - Benefits and Misconceptions
DESCRIPTION:Earned Value Management (EVM) and Earned Value Management Systems have been around since the 1960’s and used primarily on large government defense projects.  In the late 1970’s\, earned value systems become prevalent in the Architectural and Engineering industries and moved into large construction projects.  Over time it migrated into use by many large\, medium\, and even small contractors. \nQuestion:  Is EVM really as complex as seen in some mega-projects\, or can it be used in smaller projects? \nQuestion:   How can Earned Value help my management team while not bogging them down so much that a dedicated cost engineer is needed to manage it? \nWith all the questions that revolve around how Earned Value can be used to support a manager’s ability to manage the health of a project\, you need to understand that Earned Value will not solve your problems.  Though Earned Value; evaluation of cost\, schedule\, and earned work values will not provide management the true value of a project’s health\, it can provide a very functional process to enable management teams to systematically measure performance and make timely and informed decisions that will support management’s decisions with more refined and accurate information. \nWhat to expect from this webinar: \nClear understanding of what Earned Value is \n\nWhy do we care about Earned Value? Key benefits and misconceptions\nKey Acronyms and usage\n\nEarned Value Setup \n\nWork Breakdown Structure (WBS) – Detailed\nKey Rollup items – High Level\n\nTracking and Updating \n\nCost\nSchedule\n\nPercent Complete\n\nTypical errors (% Complete tracked on money)\nInexperience\n\n\nGIGO (Garbage In – Garbage Out)\n\n\n\nOutput \nEvaluation of Information \n\nDecisions\n\nMisconceptions \nErrors in EVM \nQuestions and Answers \n  \nINSTRUCTORS: \nGregg Smith\, EIT\, is a Program Manager with Currie & Brown for new Transmission Line Development serving the Western United States.  With 26+ years in Construction\, he spent 14 years in Heavy Civil (Field and Project Engineer\, Superintendent\, Project Manager)\, 6 years in Energy Project Management and 6 years as a Consultant to various owners in Manufacturing\, Microchip\, Social Media\, and Energy.  He has also served as Change Management Manager\, Scheduler\, and Procurement Manager. \nSara Zetune has 12+ years’ professional experience in analysis and management of large-scale infrastructure programs and policy initiatives. She has experience planning\, structuring\, and managing these projects under public-private partnership models and traditional procurement routes. She is a Senior Project Manager with Currie & Brown overseeing multiple substation developments in Utah\, Wyoming\, and Colorado.  Sara has an MA in Public Policy from Duke and a BA in Economics and Biology from UPenn. \nRegister a team of 3 or more from your organization and save $15 each! \n\nSee Flyer for complete details and registration information. \nRSVP using the form below and you will be sent a link to pay for your registration.

SUMMARY:Making Trusted Leadership Work for You
DESCRIPTION:According to Forbes\, a trusted organization outperforms its peers by 400%. There is no skill more important today\, for all leaders\, than to learn how to build trust. \nMost leaders believe they are good at their job. But in 2023\, research shows that only 21% of employees trust their leaders. This is not good news for most organizations. Trust is critical to performance. In construction\, trust is essential\, or you\, as an owner\, are going to waste time\, energy\, and money\, for less than stellar projects. \nSome construction owners are building more today with fewer resources and less frustration. Projects built on a foundation of trust are better quality\, safer\, faster\, cheaper\, and more fun. \nIn this webinar\, you will learn: \n\nHow to build trust\, so you can have a high-trust organization with high-trust project teams. Trust is an essential skill. which can be learned by any leader.\nHow to develop your own Trust Map to visualize the level of trust you have with your people.\nTo understand the Trusted Leader Continuum and what happens at each end of the continuum.\nThe 2-Step Partnering Approach – it allows you to build trust as the leader.\nHow your Mindset sets the stage for your results. (Trust is a mindset.)\nSteps to training your brain so you can develop new high-trust skills.\n\nPresenter: Sue Dyer is the Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Trusted Leader. Founder of International Partnering Institute\, she created the IPI Project Leader Certification training and designation.  Over the past four decades\, Sue has had the privilege of learning from over 4\,000 construction teams\, on projects valued at over $180 billion\, what it takes to create high-trust high-performing teams.  Known as the “Godmother of Partnering\,” Sue fostered the development of the Collaborative Partnering model that is used across the industry to help project teams create and steer their projects toward success. In Sue’s partnering experiences\, one thing that stood out was how often the project leaders didn’t know how to create a high-trust team.  So\, Sue created the IPI Project Leader Certification\, which uses proven models to teach project leaders how to lead better and create high-trust\, high-performing teams. \nRegister a team of 3 or more from your organization and save $15 each! \nSee Flyer for complete details and registration information. \nRSVP using the form below and you will be sent a link to pay for your registration.

SUMMARY:Broadcast Webinar - Whole Life Carbon Assessment - Steps & Tools
DESCRIPTION:Buildings generate over 40% of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions contributing to climate change.  Multiple simultaneous forces (severe weather\, natural disaster impacts\, regulations\, financial risk reporting\, government incentives\, public perception\, cheap renewable energy) are exerting intense pressure on construction to address our outsized climate impact.  Here and globally\, our industry needs to adopt a more proactive and data-driven course. \nTo meet published Net Zero Carbon (NZC) targets and avoid worst-case scenarios defined by Paris Accords (2015)\, we must aggressively measure and address the full extent of a building’s global warming potential (GWP) – known as its carbon footprint. For 30 years the industry and regulators focused on energy use\, production\, and conservation. We’ve made enormous progress toward better and more sustainable buildings through energy codes\, energy usage monitoring/measuring\, SMART controls\, and more thermally cooperative materials. \nRegrettably\, this is not enough even as we continue to improve the grid. We cannot “offset” our way out of it or reduce our energy use and production nearly enough to meet required carbon reduction challenges. We must aggressively eliminate emissions at the source\, by stopping emissions from happening in the first place. To do so\, we must make decarbonizing the built environment\, just the new normal way we work. \nWe all have a part to play\, not just Owners and Operators. Everyone in design\, engineering\, construction\, and building maintenance must contribute. Reducing carbon emitted by construction\, and reducing GHG emissions during operation is the only way to meet the challenge. \nHowever\, we cannot manage\, nor change and improve\, that which we do not measure. So\, the industry must reset by measuring ALL the GHG emissions from the built environment\, also known as whole life carbon.    \nThis webinar will drill down on the following: \n\nWhere are the major carbon impacts in construction?\nWhy does this matter\, and especially right now?\nWhat is Whole Life Carbon (WLC) & Whole Life Carbon Assessment (WLCA)\nWhy focus on the embodied carbon impacts in construction?\nHow to do a carbon assessment and what gets measured?\nWhat tools can you use to do an assessment?\n\nPRESENTER:   \nMark Wartenberg is a consultant helping organizations de-carbonize both construction projects and existing buildings.  WLCM helps clients balance all project constraints (scope\, schedule\, budget\, risk) while integrating carbon as a constraint.  Analyzing the carbon impact of build programs\, while also considering cost and schedule impacts\, helps owners make informed decisions across their portfolios. \nRegister a team of 3 or more from your organization and save $15 each! \n\nSee Flyer for complete details and registration information. \nRSVP using the form below and you will be sent a link to pay for your registration. \n\n  \n
